He was that boy in the playground. The one that pulled your pigtails. The one that lifted your dress in front of the entire school. Now he's that guy in the office. The one that steals your lunch from the fridge. The one that gets away with everything. I'm sure you know him. Everyone knows that guy. He's a #JERK.
Presley Malone knew her relationship with her fiancé, Jason, had run its course. The second that ring came off her finger, she didn't expect to be the pawn in an immature game played by the office jerk.
His name is Haden Cooper, and he is six years younger than her. Immature and irresponsible, getting drunk and stoned every weekend like he never left college. He rode a motorcycle, carrying a different girl each week. He was everything a jerk should be—insensitive, unreliable, and most importantly, a heartbreaker.
Haden enjoyed playing games, and when it came to Presley Malone, it was all too easy. Miss Know-it-all with her over-the-top OCD was soon going to get a taste of what it was like to live on the edge.
But what starts off as an innocent prank soon becomes an unhealthy obsession.
He is wrong for her and she is wrong for him. It's a battle of the sexes ready to go to war. But in this battle there are no winners, and it takes only one fateful night and six tequilas for their lives to take an unexpected turn that changes them both forever.
#Jerk is a standalone contemporary romance, however fans of The Dark Angel series may recognise a few characters who make a cameo appearance.
The Oxford Dictionaries definition of a jerk is: A Contemptibly obnoxious person. This is what Haden Cooper is to Presley Malone. Having recently broken up with her Fiancé, Presley isn’t looking for love. Of course at 32, she like most single thirty something women has fears of turning into a middle aged cat lady, but she isn’t heartbroken. Jason was great, she loved him but it was all just a little easy, a little too comfortable. Instead she decides that being the super organised OCD freak that she is, she will take her time finding the one, honouring her 7 week sex rule, whilst throwing herself into her job. However, her working hours would be much more pleasant if she didn’t have to contend with the jerk that has done nothing but annoy her since he started 6 months ago. Haden Cooper is the most egotistical, smarmy and womanising man she has ever had the misfortune of meeting. He is under her skin and not in the best way either. He is like a bad case of hives… but as we all know hives have a tendency to be itchy, and well itches always need to be scratched.
I’m going to stop right there, my lips are sealed so as not to give away any spoilers.
There is nothing better than picking up a book, reading it and then immediately looking for that authors back catalogue. Seriously guys, for me there is nothing better than finding an author that ticks all your boxes. Kat T. Masen did that for me with #Jerk. This is one of those books that keeps you entertained form beginning to end.
Presley, well I think most single girls in their 30’s will relate to her. Slightly neurotic and just a little OCD, she like many of us women is a planner. She knows how she wants her life to go and she has mapped every single step out. But life is life, and things happen that blows your well laid plans apart. I loved her humour, understood her frustrations, I just got HER!
Haden, seriously what a fab character. Yes he has an ego the size of Texas and he loves to throw a good tantrum, but unpeel his layers and he is just the lonely boy in the playground who wants to be noticed by the pretty girl. He puts Presley through lots and at times he needs to seriously work on his deliverance, but when it matters he steps up to the plate and shows he is more than a hot body and pretty face. Much, much more than a #Jerk.
As I have already alluded, this is my first Kat T. Masen book, but believe me it won’t be my last. I already have the first 2 books in her Dark Angel series waiting for me to devour as I did this one. Her writing has every element that I love. Sexiness, angst, humour and a good love story with characters that are well developed and have a good depth to them. If you enjoy Emma Chase books, you will enjoy this; it has that same romantic comedy feel about it.
A brilliant story with some great characters, it is a book I highly recommend. I am super excited to have found myself a new author and I can’t wait to get stuck into her other titles.
