Book 2 in the Sin City Outlaws series. This is very much a continuation of Reign #1. Do not read this book or indeed this review before reading Reign as this review will contain some spoilers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
So Mercy starts very much where Reign finished. Zeek and Jillian are on the run from both Zeek’s uncle and the Las Vegas law enforcement agencies following the murder of Jillian’s father at the hands of Zeek. Zeek’s main concern is keeping Jillian safe and out of his Uncle’s clutches, whilst all Jillian wants to do is get away from her father’s killer, mourn his death and try and clear her name.
Heading toward California and his brother Lip, Zeek knows he is taking a risk. The Devil’s Dust is the last place he should be going and his brother may just carry out his last threat of killing him, but it is a chance he has to take to keep Jillian alive; even if she hates him at the moment.
Secrets will be revealed and everything that both Zeek and Jillian believed to be the truth will prove to be lies. Will the love that had grown between them remain? Or will the obstacles they face be the final nail in the coffin between the outlaw and the deputy? I will leave it to you to find out.
So I did mention in my review of Reign that I found it a little slow out of the starting blocks. Let me tell you right now that this can’t be said for Mercy. The pace of this book is fast and furious. These are two characters on the run and M.N Forgy’s storytelling reflects that. She keeps the storyline snapping along but also perfectly blends in the emotion of a woman who watched the man she loves kill her hero. It made me seriously wonder how she could turn this around for a man and woman that already have so much in their way before they can reach a HEA. I don’t want to say much more as I don’t want to give anything away, but what I will say is that it is full of unexpected twists and turns. Loyalty and brotherhood will be the focus. Will Zeek’s club come to the rescue? And will his blood brother turn his back for good? Zeek will certainly find out where loyalties truly lie.
On a final note, it was fab to see a cameo from the boys of Devil’s Dust; miss those guys. Hope we see more of them again soon.
If you like your MC reads to be fast, furious and the romance to be as difficult as it is beautiful, this series is one you will love.
