El Diablo is book 1 in a spin-off series of the brilliant Good Ol’ Boys. You do not need to have read that series, however I personally feel it is essential to at least read Crave Me, as Martinez is introduced and plays an integral part in that book.

They call him the Devil and indeed he believes himself to be exactly that. But are people born bad? Or is it our environment that determines the paths our lives will take? This is Alejandro Martinez’s story. From his innocent teenage years, we follow him as he meets the destiny his Mob father has set for him. He rules with an iron fist, is feared and hated as much as he is respected in the underworld he presides over. But it is one woman who will be his biggest challenge. So the question is how can he love an angel when he belongs in hell.

Lexi has had a dismal life thus far. She dreams of becoming a ballerina, but the journey has been a sad and unhappy one. When she meets the older, handsome and enigmatic Martinez, she embarks on a relationship that will span many years. She is well aware of the danger that surrounds him, but she only see’s the light. He becomes her saviour, but also her worst nightmare.

And that is where I leave my overview. I could write and write on. This is such a twisting and turning story which throws up surprises, but will also answers questions we had about Martinez from Crave Me. So all I will say is that there are always 2 sides to a story. We got Brigg’s version of her Uncle, now we get his side and man is it bloody good!

So I must admit that I was unsure whether I would enjoy this book. Not because I don’t LOVE M. Robinson’s work, because believe me after reading the original Good Ol’ Boys series she has become a favourite author of mine. No, my concern was the main protagonist. As I have already said, he plays a major part in Austin and Brigg’s story in Crave Me and I came out of that book laying a lot of blame for the problems they had to battle at his feet. I was unsure if he would be redeemable, if he deserved his HEA. But M. Robinson plays this story like a concert pianist plays his Steinway grand piano. You will love him and hate him over and over again. In Lexi he has found the chink in his proverbial armour. She challenges him, doesn’t fear him and sees him for the good and the really bad. But will his need to protect her end up breaking both their hearts? Well I will leave that for you to find out.

Happily I can tell you that we also get to see the Good Ol’ Boys and the way their lives have moved on. I am guessing we will be seeing a little more of them in November when Creed the next book in this spin-off series is released.

To M. Robinson, Your stories are masterpieces. I love how your minds works, but more than that I love the way it keeps one step ahead of the readers. You lady are a twisted genius and I can’t wait for the next instalment.
