STEPSISTER.
He hated that f*cking word.
When their parents got married, the only thing Caleb Luxan had in common with Wren Brashill was that they both hated their parents. When he was sixteen, Caleb discovered Wren's closely guarded secret and vowed to protect her: from that day forward she became the reason for every decision he made.
Jealousy and long-suppressed desire overpowered Caleb's fierce protectiveness and they spent one forbidden and unforgettable night in each other arms, but the aftermath left Caleb panicked, Wren heartbroken, and their relationship in shambles. In the time since that fateful night, he’d only seen her once and had only managed to make the situation even worse.
The sudden death of his estranged father calls Caleb home and face-to-face with Wren for first time in years. He is presented with a choice that forces him to confront the painful memories of his youth and his many regrets with Wren.Like it or not, his father's last, hard lesson, will demand Caleb deal with his long denied emotions for Wren, or let go of her forever.

‘One Step Closer is a titillating, sexy, addictive read that will leave you begging for more. An absolute knock out!” ~ Kelly, Perusing Princesses Blog

If you love second chance romances then this book is for you!

Let’s be honest here for a moment… it’s no secret that Step Brother romances have saturated the market in the last year or so, and I’ve read a few. Yes, I’ve enjoyed them, the dynamics and how that kind of relationship can change a family and put strain on the young couple destined for love is an interesting one, and One Step Closer is a truly worthy top runner.

Caleb and Wren’s story is more about protecting that love, even if it means walking away from it. Their union comes as a result of grief, emotional abuse and loneliness wrapped in wealth.

Caleb is in turmoil. His Mother being diagnosed with cancer when he was only 12, he became her rock and carer whilst his Father shunned responsibility and buried his head in work at the later stages of her illness has made Caleb angry and unforgiving of his neglect. That is only made worse by the arrival of a money grabbing new wife and her strange, introverted goth Daughter who hides in the shadows.

As time goes by, Caleb comes to realise that Wren is as lonely and angry as he is, but whereas his grudge comes from a quiet neglect, Wren’s is more sinister and Caleb vows to be her protector.

Playing the big protecting Step Brother comes with complications, the hardest one of all, is falling in love…

And my goodness, what a beautifully written journey this was. Kahlen really knows how to pull at those heartstrings and deliver a love story with substance.

Caleb and Wren’s journey is a long one that comes with complications, heartache and dedication that was a joy to behold and I implore anyone that enjoys this genre to read it!
