Book 1 in the Steel Souls series, this book is unrelated to any previous work by Nikki Groom.
Sadie Foster hides her rage well. Outwardly she lives a quiet almost solitary life, however look a little deeper and she is a volcano waiting to erupt. Unable to forget her past, she desires revenge and retribution. Little does she know the path it is to lead her down.
Ramsey Dalton is a loud and proud biker. VP of the Steel Souls MC, he likes his bikes fast and his pussy even faster. Loyal to the core, his brothers both blood and water come first. So when he comes across a raven haired beauty getting in the way of club business, he vows to find out more. Little does he know of the darkness she holds and the ripple effects the presence of her in his life will create for both him and his club.
Well that ended my MC book slump. I have always LOVED this genre, but to be honest it has all got a bit same samey of late, leaving me to avoid reading anything in this genre for a while now. But having loved Against the Tide by Ms Groom, I knew this was a book I would most certainly have to make an allowance for. Let me tell you how glad I am about that.
Nikki’s first venture into this popular style is a roaring success as far as I am concerned. Not only is it departure for her in terms of subject and backdrop, thankfully it is also a departure from the rather generic MC stories that every Tom, Dick and Harry seem to be releasing. Straight away I was sucked in by the rather dark and interesting prologue, then I became addicted to the mystery and secrets that you know are waiting just around the corner. It had an almost suspenseful feel about it and I applaud Nikki for being able to get that across in her writing.
Both characters have a history and I think they recognise the darkness they both possess in each other. The chemistry between them is electric, but it is the connection and understanding of who they are as people that seems to attract them the most. Sadie isn’t scared to stand up to Ramsey and he totally respects her for that. On the flip side, Sadie isn’t a shrinking violet that he needs to protect and that seems to be a major turn on for Ram. They can be themselves and although that works for them, I’m not sure it works for all.
So don’t go in expecting a rush job of a storyline; that is totally not Nikki Groom’s style. Their story continues into book 2, Fire in the Stars. So do expect an amazing ending, one that I personally didn’t see coming; and I totally had my own little conspiracy theories running through my head as I raced to the books conclusion, all of which were not on the money in this book anyway. I hope we get further books as well, there are a few interesting secondary characters that I hope Nikki explores more for us in the future.
Another great read from a talented British writer. I highly recommend reading her books of you like a bit of grittiness in your reads. Well done Nikki, and thank-you for restoring my faith in MC romance. I seriously can’t wait for book 2.
