There are ugly truthsand pretty lies. When I lost themI chose neither.I wrapped myself in silence. My husband, my best friend, became a stranger who gave up.
Then.... He moved next door, and everything changed. You think you know this story, but you don't.Be careful what you ask for because the answer may not come the way you think.
A new standalone romance from the author of the fabulous If I Break series. This is completely unrelated to any of her previous books.
Chassidy is struggling with life. Following a double tragedy her life is falling apart at the seams and she is unable to stop it. She knows that she is pushing the love of her life away, but she feels so helpless under the grey cloud that she now lives under. One thing she does know is that the love she has for Bryce still remains, but is it enough? Are her failures too much? Does loving him mean letting him go? And then Carter moves next door…
Well if you are reading this thinking that this is remotely like Portia’s If I Break series, think again. This book is completely different, the only thing links them is that once again Portia has created a very unique story.
This book in lots of ways is a hard read. I don’t say that in a negative way, far from it actually. Most people will read the title and synopsis and assume that you will be reading a book about a standard love triangle and indeed some may be put off by that. That is not this book. This books subject matter is one that many women deal with and the story delves into the effects and repercussions it can have on a seemingly perfect marriage. Told mostly from Chassidy POV, we get flash backs to happier times from Bryce. It is heart-breaking and poignant and although I am lucky enough to have not experienced what Chassidy does, I think how she copes will resonate with every woman reading it.
Carter moves in next door when Chassidy is at her lowest. Her husband is away and she feels so alone. He becomes her sounding board and a much needed friend. But when others step into the fray, can he continue to be her friend? Will Chassidy make the right decisions or will she cross a line that can’t be uncrossed?
I am going to leave it there as I don’t want to give anything away, but this book and how the storyline developed blindsided me. Expect the unexpected guys. Let’s face it, if you have read Portia Moore’s previous books then you know she likes to throw in a curve ball or two and she certainly didn’t let me down. Not the type of book I would usually read, but beautifully written as I have come to expect from this author and different enough that I certainly found it a page turner. Portia has certainly poured her soul into this one and I applaud her for it.
If you want a book full of the trials and tribulations of keeping a love alive in the most trying of circumstances. A book full of emotion, faith, love, loss and heartbreak, He Lived Next Door will certainly deliver.
