Spark in the Ashes is a fantastic initiation for Nikki Groom into the dark and gritty world of MC contemporary romance. This book delivered in droves, as it held many elements that make a good book great including suspense, violence, sex and the best part… likable (even though a little fucked up) characters.

From chapter one this book makes one hell of an opening impact with a young woman who has made a very conscious decision to walk the dangerous path of revenge. Her reasoning becomes very apparent as the story unfolds, and one that kept me riveted until the end.

Ramsey is enamored with the young beauty who carries herself so calmly, whilst holding a gun that just ended a renowned local lowlife, but unfortunately her actions have caused him somewhat of a problem. He was owed a debt, and now it seems it will have to be paid by another – the very female walking away from her new kill.

Sadie and Ramsey’s first meeting ends in a car wreck and many unanswered questions. But if there is one good thing Ramsey Dalton, Vice President of the Steel Souls MC is good at, and that is getting answers – he just never expected a feisty female with personality traits close to his own. This is no wannabe MC whore like he’s used to, Sadie ‘Raven’ Foster is a whole new ballgame.

Sadie is a ticking time bomb, her promise to do the job she set out for doesn’t as much come under scrutiny but understanding, making her realise that the life of a bikers old lady could have its merits, and yet she never envisioned that life with Ramsey could prove more dangerous than the life she set out for herself when a rival MC finally shows their hand and will stop at nothing to take the reins and their territory.

And oh my goodness what a fucking ride this book was! I can’t tell you how many MC books I’ve read, but I can tell you that this one stood out for many reasons, but none more so than having two strong, brave and undeniably hard-core characters at the helm. There are no shrinking violets here ladies, and for that alone it was absolutely awesome!

There is a deeper backstory here that moulds both our characters into what they are today, and yet there were still rules, lines you didn’t cross that were admirable. There was no violence for the sake of it which many MC books I’ve read lately seem to have made a theme. I felt most actions were justified even if one in particular was a little gruesome, it wasn’t overdone – and that ending will have you shouting HOLY HELLS BELLS with that wicked little twist, and no, I didn’t see it coming!

I can’t wait for the sequel. Write like the wind Nikki, I need it now
