I’m over this year, and I’m over relationships. I’ve learned that the only person you can count on in life is yourself. Moving forward, I’m living for me. Working toward standing on my own two feet, that’s my goal. Funny how meeting him changed my path.
It’s been years since I’ve been back in this small town of West Virginia for more than a day or two. Spending time here brings back a lot of fond memories. When I stopped by an old friend’s bar, I was expecting to grab a drink and catch up. What I didn’t expect was her.
We share an undeniable attraction, but we continue to fight it.
I had everything I ever wanted, living the dream, at least that's what I always thought. The night we met, we had an instant attraction, but she was with someone else. When we reunited a few months later, that pull was still there, stronger than ever. So strong, that even though she was hundreds of miles away, I pursued her. I told myself that I just wanted to get to know her. Deep down I knew it was more.
I never understood the draw of living in the middle of nowhere. Born and raised a city girl, I never had the desire to leave. Who would have thought a weekend trip to the country would have me questioning myself? It was more than just the country; it's him. The way he looks at me, treats me, that smooth southern drawl.
Am I willing to give up my legacy for her?
Am I willing to give up my dream for him?
Can two souls come together by the force of Southern Attraction?

This book is a standalone and doesn’t relate to any other titles by Kaylee Ryan.
We meet Melissa as she goes in search of life. Having had a shitty childhood, she was lucky enough to be adopted. However, she is now alone again having lost her parents in tragic circumstances. Always one to follow the rules, when she stops for the night in a town she runs into a friendly group of guys and connects with one of them straight away. Totally out of character she spends the night with Ridge, but when Ridge wakes up in bed on his own, it is clear that Melissa has moved on.
Ridge has never quite forgot the sad girl he met all those months ago. He isn’t one for a relationship, one night is his and his close group of friends’ thing. But something about that girl has stuck with him. After a bet, he starts to have a friend’s with benefits relationship. But time together creates feelings from her that he isn’t into. One night he promises to go to an event, knowing that he will end things with her for good. But the storm he finds himself in has other ideas. When he pulls over to a serious accident, little does he know that not only has it changed his plans for the night, but it will change his life completely.
Okay, stopping there. This book is one of those books that is hard to sum up in a nutshell without giving too much away. I think from the cover you will easily guess that a baby is involved, however the how’s, where’s and when’s are a really enjoyable part of the book and one I don’t wish to spoil for you.
This book is jammed packed with great characters, none more so than Ridge, Kendall (a paediatric nurse) and the friends that are all connected either through blood or bond. I laughed, cried and swooned. It really does cover every emotion. But the best thing about this book is the twists, turns and the real unexpected that totally blindside you.
This is a perfect easy read with loveable characters and a storyline that engages and flows. Kaylee Ryan was a new author to me; she isn’t now. Since reading this, I have read a further 2 of her older titles and the talent she has for a flowing storyline seems to feature in them all.
So although, as already mentioned, Unexpected Reality is a standalone, I really hope that Kaylee expands on it and features books for all the characters. They really are a loveable bunch and 1 couple in particular have my interest very much piqued.
