Two hearts in the darkness…
Makenna James and Caden Grayson have been inseparable since the day they were trapped in a pitch-black elevator and found acceptance and love in the arms of a stranger. Makenna hopes that night put them on the path to forever—which can’t happen until she introduces her tattooed, pierced, and scarred boyfriend to her father and three over-protective brothers.
Must fight for love in the light…
Haunted by a childhood tragedy and the loss of his family, Caden never thought he’d find the love he shares with Makenna. But the deeper he falls, the more he fears the devastation sure to come if he ever lost her, too. When meeting her family doesn’t go smoothly, Caden questions whether Makenna deserves someone better, stronger, and just more…normal. Maybe they’re too different—and he’s far too damaged—after all…
Makenna and Caden are back in this heartwarming tale of love, survival and second chances.
Hearts in Darkness still remains one of my favourite novellas of all time. I remember reading it on a rainy afternoon and it was the best way to spend a couple of hours on a gloomy day. I loved the idea of finding solace with a stranger in the dark. A broken down elevator was the start of a relationship based on openness and trust, manifesting into something solid and real.
However, the demons we harbour have a way of spreading doubt into our hearts, such is the case with Caden in this story as we learn more about his past and the horrors of what he endured one fateful night when the two people he loved most perished in a fatal accident. That event still plays a pivotal part today as he puts himself amidst the throes of the ill, hurt and dying, working as a paramedic, fighting to save others from the loss he endured.
Makenna is enamoured. She has never loved another like she loves Caden, not even her ex boyfriend Cameron who has made it known he still cares for her deeply. Caden is her light, even though he is hiding so much. She can feel his fear, his reluctance to let her in, but Makenna has been brought up by a loving Father and three older Brothers’, she is strong, and won’t let anything get in the way of what they have.
Fighting inner demons head on has always been a lonely existence, until now….
Love in the Light is beautifully crafted as what we have come to expect from Laura Kaye. This new full length sequel into the events that followed from that broken down dark elevator was a real gem, and to delve back into the lives of two likeable and strong characters proves that Kaye certainly does listen to her fans.
Character driven, honest and sexually charged, Love in the Light is a contemporary romance that focuses on loss, love and overcoming a painful past. The key here is that working together, putting your trust and love in another can lighten the burden and with it comes the best thing of all… freedom to love again.
