He was the myth and the legend of our small town. But no one knew the truth... except me.

MeMy childhood was stolen by a monster. I’ve forgotten what love feels like. What happiness feels like. What hope feels like. I am numb.

HimHe’s possibly as damaged as I am. Maybe even more. Scarred just as much on the inside as the outside. Just like me. He doesn’t speak. He doesn’t smile. He hides in the woods like an animal. I should be scared of him. But I’m not. He’s the only one who has ever made me feel. And I want to make him feel, too. Everything...

** Can be read stand-alone.

** This is a slow burn romance. It is not erotica, nor are there lots of sex scenes. This is about two lonely, damaged people learning to trust, love, and find happiness. Their story does not revolve around sex.

** There is no cheating in this book.

** While the heroine was kidnapped and abused mentally and physically as a child, I do not give any graphic details about what happened to her out of respect to survivors who may read this book. This book focuses on hope and moving forward and I felt there was no need to include graphic details to get the point across.

Book 2 in the Devils Wolves series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading Torn anyway because it is such a brilliant book.

Holly was taken when she was just 8 years old. Kidnapped and presumed dead, 10 years later she is found with her dog Poppy and the backpack that hold the fairytales that have kept her sane. Damaged and scared of the world last seen through an innocent 8 year olds eyes, it is the prince that saved her that becomes an obsession in finding her happily ever after. But life isn’t a fairytale and her prince is just as damaged as her.

Tyler has hidden in the woods with little contact from the outside world to punish his mistakes and keep a distance from his family that he can no longer face because of his selfishness. Damaged on both the inside and out, the scares he wears with disgust only remind him of the mistakes that led to tragedy and changed the path of his life forever. When he finds a young girl in a hole in the woods, little does he know the impact she will have on his future.

Pursuing a future means accepting and facing the past. Will Holly and Tyler learn to live with their ghosts? Or will they only ruin the happiness that they find in each other?

It all started with Torn (#1) for me. This is Tyler’s older brother’s story and I have to say it blew me away. We first met Tyler in that book and straight away I knew his story would rip my heart out, and man it sure did. We have had to wait a while for this book, but it is well worth it. This is a slow burn romance, a story of two seriously damaged people finding solace in each other. They are both tackling issues, but somehow together they find their safe place.

Tyler lives up to the town’s image of him. The local nutter/psycho with his death masks and sad existence, and that is what it is. He exists without a future, living with the regrets of the past. Holly sees right through him, she sees the real Tyler hidden deep inside, he is her prince. Fighting her own struggles to get past the horrors of the 10 years she was kept in captivity, Tyler makes her feel a person and not a victim. He is the kindness she craves and the safe place she needs.

So if you go expecting a hearts and flowers sex fest, you will be sorely disappointed in this book. No, this book is a beautiful story of love, redemption and absolution. It will break your heart whilst giving you hope as you follow 2 fabulous characters story. A truly heart-wrenching love story.

Carian Cole is a definite one click author for me. Her stories have a real depth and quality to them and she is one very talented storyteller. I look forward to reading Tanner’s story and of course more from her other brilliant series, Ashes and Embers.

A must read book, series and author.

He’s loved me since the day I was born. He’s taken care of me. He’s awakened me.
Tor. My father’s best friend. Fifteen years older than me, he’s always been my protector. The one I should never, ever want. But I was born to be his.
She’s always loved me. She’s shattered me. She’s healed me. Kenzi. My best friend’s daughter. I held her the day she was born, and I never let go. She’s forbidden to me. But she’s the only one that really gets me. We’re slowly being torn apart by everything we love. Everything we want. Everything we desire.
And now I want the one thing I can’t have... I want her.

Book 1 in the Devils Wolves series. This book is the start of a spin off series from the Ashes & Embers series and features characters from that series throughout. You do not need to have read that series to enjoy Torn, however I recommend you do as it will give you more of a background to the characters and the world in which they live in.

Kenzi Valentine is just about to graduate high school and isn’t sure what she wants to do with her life. The daughter of rock stars, her and her father have had to survive life without her mother for the last few years and it has been tough. But with the love of her close family, her dad and her dad’s best friend, she is as happy as she could be without the presence of the mother she adored. Tor, her father’s best-friend and her god-father has always been her closest friend, the person she could rely on and her go to person when things got tough. Only 15 years older than her, she has always felt a deep connection with him. Until one day the line between love and friendship becomes blurred and it may never be quite the same ever again.

Tor has always loved Kenzi with his whole heart. When his best-friends had her when they were 15, he promised to help them and he has never wavered in his commitment to them or her. She has always been the brightness in his life, the sugar in his tea and the light in his darkness. They share so much and connect on so many levels. But when feelings suddenly evolve and life moves in a direction you least expect, you can either go with your head or follow your hearts desires.

Oh god, how I loved this book. Having seen the synopsis for this book back in July, I just knew I had to read it. I quickly read the 4 books in the Ashes and Embers series in preparation and although I really enjoyed them, nothing could have prepared me for this book. It has everything I love in a good old fashioned, heart wrenching romance.

So I will warn you that Uncle (not by blood) turns into potential lover and with Kenzi just 18 and Toren 32, some may feel put off. I urge you not to be though. This is a real destined to be together type of story. It is beautiful because of the pureness of the love they have for each other and the battle that Toren in particular has with his feelings. There is no ickyness to it at all and I really have to praise Carian Cole for the way she has portrayed their story. It is full of angst and pure romance and it made me go all gooey inside.

If you want a book that has a bit of taboo, lots of angst and a love that could potentially last a lifetime, this book is an absolute MUST READ!!
